Secure Password Generator
Free secure password generator: create strong random passwords up to 128 characters with your choice of characters and an entropy strength meter.
Generated in your browser with the secure random generator. Never sent anywhere.
How to use the Secure Password Generator
- Set the length. 16 or more is recommended.
- Choose which character types to include.
- Click New for another one, then Copy.
- Store it in a password manager.
What makes a password strong?
Strength comes from length and randomness. Each extra character multiplies the number of guesses an attacker needs. A random 16-character password using all character types has about 105 bits of entropy, far beyond practical cracking.
entropy (bits) = length × log2(size of character set)
How this generator works
It uses your browser's cryptographically secure random number generator (crypto.getRandomValues) and rejection sampling, so every character is chosen uniformly with no bias. At least one character from each selected type is guaranteed, then the result is shuffled.
Good habits
- Use a different password for every account.
- Keep them in a password manager instead of memorising.
- Turn on two-factor authentication where possible.
- Avoid personal details, keyboard patterns and reused words.
Frequently asked questions
How long should a password be?
At least 12 characters, and 16 or more for important accounts.
Is this generator safe?
Yes. It runs locally with the browser's secure random source and sends nothing anywhere.
What are look-alike characters?
Characters such as 0, O, l, 1 and I that are easy to confuse when typing by hand.
Are symbols required?
They increase entropy but length matters more. Some sites do not allow certain symbols, so untick them if needed.
